A flock of geese heading south, at twilight, high up, with the new camera. Wow. I can see individual geese. That's impressive. I guess that's what happens when you go from a .4 megapixel to 3.2 megapixels. Ah, progress... And techno-lust.

Jack, out at some restaurant for someone's birthday. Probably mine, as it came first, and he's still in SHORTS. Yes, it's been a warm fall...

This is the snook, same restaurant, same day, also eating dinner. And practicing that pre-teen attitude. More of THAT later...

And here we are on October 1, with the school Marathon. Rhiannon was playing in pep band. Outdoors. This is why I was a drummer. Sooner or later you're going to have to go outside with your instrument on a frosty morning - and it's rather difficult to get frozen to your instrument if it weighs 30 pounds, is attached to straps on your body - and you never touch it with your mouth... See? I'm not so stupid...

Same day, same parking lot - just looking backwards. There's Jack - probably planning something. Uh-oh...

Later that day it warmed up - nicely - into the seventies. And my now-former employer took us on a boat cruise on the St. Croix River. Nice picture, no? Then again, how can it be anything but... I'm not in it, and my lovely bride is.

Yes. A gondola. On the St. Croix. In Stillwater. No, I don't get it. There were about twenty boats nearby - some as small as rowboats. Some rivaling the Titanic. I swear. We were on a converted tugboat. Seriously!

These are some of the smaller boats. Nice scenery, though. That's Wisconsin, there, on the right.

And this is a stern-ward shot looking back at Stillwater. It's a pretty, albeit expensive and very, very crowded town - at least on the "downtown" end of things.

Now THAT'S a tree. And a subtle reminder that fall is coming - or in this case, a reminder that fall was beautiful.

This was an antique boat - all wood, and beautiful. Just what I want when I grow up, make my fortune, and win the lottery...

Wow. Every once in a while, I get a good one. Not too bad, eh?

A nice little building on a point of land - spoiled by the power-line tower, but then again, it's tough in this state to get riverfront land for parks - if the compromise is a power tower, so be it. Neat rock-work, though...

Compensating? Him? No. He looked to be about my age, and I'm not compensating for anything... I hope.

Here we flash ahead to my birthday - and my birthday cake. Notable only because it's a birthday cake, and I survived another year.

You see, my survival isn't always guaranteed. Though you can see my arm hair and freckles very clearly in this...

And here we are a week later, waiting for Rhiannon's first home volleyball game to start. It's the second-last weekend of the regular season, and they finally get their first home game. What's up with that?

I don't think the red-eye reduction is working on the camera. That, or I have a demon for a son. Well, it could be both, I suppose. Anyway, Jack posing with his first (and so far only) self-carved pumpkin. Er, as in, Jack did it. Though the pumpkin may well have self-mutilated, I can't really tell. Suicide by pumpkin. I've seen weirder (just barely).

Here we've skipped ahead two weeks plus to Jack's birthday. This is him with "snowy" his new stuffed snow-lion toy.

We got Rhiannon a stuffed animal as well - "lamby" (probably the ninth or so). She's thrilled. And yes, this is from the same camera - I just cropped out Jack dancing with something or other we couldn't see very well.

He also received some appropriate PJs.

And here we have Jack, slumbering under the killer bunny chair. The new PJs apparently were bait. No, I don't know why he dragged it onto his bed.

And no sequence of pictures would be complete without the dog sleeping on the couch. She likes it there. And doesn't go up until we tell her specifically that she can. Good doggie.

Ah, a school concert. One third of the middle school, the entire fifth grade, the entire third grade, and an evening I'll never get back. Jack, of course, was stellar. The rest of the evening? I'd have rather been in the bleachers. Seriously.

The best shot of the night of Jack - unfortunately, due to the low light and movement, Jack is the barely-identifiable stripey blur on the left. Next time, we'll try the flash.

How fast is Rhiannon? Fast enough that you get that view when you try to take a picture and she knows about it.... And doesn't want it taken.

But when she wants to, you get her in all her snarky, teen-aged glory. Oy. And she's only twelve.

Jack, departing stage left (seriously - if I remember my theater rules, stage left is the right side of the stage as you look at it - because stage left is the player's left, not the viewer's left. But I could be wrong - after all, I was just a tech geek).

And Jack's "Did I do well enough to get a treat?" query in the back of the van. Ann got him good...
